01 Mission Objective

Command Twin-Engine Aircraft With Confidence

The Multi-Engine Rating adds a Category/Class rating to an existing Private or Commercial certificate, authorizing you to act as Pilot in Command of multi-engine land aircraft. Thrust Flight Academy’s accelerated MEP add-on drills asymmetric thrust management to airline safety standards in a compressed, focused schedule.

Vmc Demonstrations

Hands-on demonstration of minimum controllable airspeed during simulated engine failure at altitude.

Engine-Out Emergency Procedures

Identify, verify, and feather a failed engine while maintaining aircraft control on takeoff and in cruise.

Asymmetric Thrust Management

Counteract critical engine yaw and maintain coordinated flight during single-engine operations.

Single-Engine Approach & Landing

Execute stabilized single-engine approaches and go-arounds to FAA Commercial ACS tolerances.

02 Candidate Prerequisites Checklist
Current FAA Private or Commercial Pilot License
Current FAA Medical Certificate (Class 1, 2, or 3)
Minimum 100 total flight hours recommended
Complex aircraft familiarity helpful but not required

*Already hold a Commercial Pilot License? This add-on unlocks multi-engine commercial privileges immediately upon completion.

03 Syllabus Breakdown

Your Pathway After the MEP

Multi-engine time is a direct prerequisite for most regional airline First Officer positions — most cadets pair this rating with their CFI or move straight into airline cadet pipelines.

Frequently Asked Cadet Inquiries

No — the Multi-Engine Rating can be added to a Private Pilot License. Many cadets choose to earn it alongside or immediately after their Commercial Pilot License for career efficiency.
Because you already hold a pilot certificate, MEP training focuses exclusively on twin-engine systems and emergency procedures rather than primary flight skills — most cadets complete it in 10-15 flight hours over 1-2 weeks.
It requires more disciplined checklist and emergency-procedure flying, but its counter-rotating propellers make it more forgiving than older twins with a traditional ‘critical engine.’
The rating itself doesn’t expire, but FAA flight review currency requirements apply just as with any pilot certificate — we recommend at least annual multi-engine proficiency flights.
